About the Western Regional Pinyon Jay Working Group

The Western Regional Pinyon Jay Working Group (WR-PJWG) is a collaborative partnership of state and federal agencies, Tribal governments, universities, non-governmental organizations, and other conservation partners working to advance the conservation of Pinyon Jays (Gymnorhinus cyanocephalus) throughout the western United States.

The Working Group was established to improve communication among partners, coordinate conservation efforts across jurisdictions, and facilitate the exchange of information related to Pinyon Jay ecology, monitoring, habitat management, and research. By working together, partners can better understand regional conservation needs, identify research priorities, share management successes and lessons learned, and support science-based conservation throughout the species' range.

The WR-PJWG works closely with the National Pinyon Jay Working Group while focusing on issues, opportunities, and management needs specific to the western states.

Geographic Scope

The Western Regional Pinyon Jay Working Group currently includes partners from:

  • Nevada

  • California

  • Oregon

  • Idaho

  • Utah

  • Arizona

Additional participation from neighboring states and organizations is welcomed as conservation efforts continue to expand across the species' range.
