California Spotted Owl Acoustic Monitoring Technician
The Great Basin Bird Observatory and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s K. Lisa Yang Center are seeking one technician to undertake field work for bioacoustics research projects throughout National Forests in Southern California. This monitoring program uses autonomous recording units (ARUs) and machine learning to survey for avifauna – most critically the California Spotted owl – and provide information for several research and management programs studying forest owls and songbirds.
Field Technician: Avian and Mortality Monitoring
The Great Basin Bird Observatory (GBBO) is seeking two qualified field technicians to conduct mortality monitoring at the Crescent Dunes Solar Facility in Tonopah, Nevada. Great Basin Bird Observatory is a non-profit organization of scientists dedicated to furthering bird conservation in the Great Basin and adjoining regions. This project is focused on monitoring avian use and mortality rates at an innovative renewable resource facility. Primary duties will include conducting mortality surveys 7 consecutive days each month. Additional duties include conducting avian point counts and waterbird census.
Start date: Immediate need for start date 2 March 2026, for 7 consecutive days (2-8 March), but later start date negotiable.
