Learn to sketch birds in pencil and watercolor!
Having trouble telling Cassin's from House Finches? Looking for a way to get to know your feeder birds better? Ever wonder about bird anatomy? What do those legs look like under all those feathers anyway?
Sketching is a time-honored tradition of naturalists and scientists alike, and a great way to hone your observation skills. While we won't learn how to paint the detailed illustrations you see in the guides in one class, you will learn how to get a sense of the general character of a bird that you can express quickly anywhere and any time - from a photo, at your feeders, or in the wild. This includes the proportions and colors that make birds recognizable in the field.
No drawing or painting experience necessary. This is less about making perfect images and more about developing your ability to see. But it is the first step to building a solid foundation for bird illustration, if that interests you.
This class is free to attend, but cash donations are appreciated (suggested donation: $10). This class is designed for adults, but participants ages 12 and up are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
